Slow down, get your hands muddy, and create a one-of-a-kind ceramic mug in this beginner-friendly handbuilding workshop led by ceramic artist Melba Seto.

In this relaxed and supportive class, you’ll learn foundational handbuilding techniques to design and build your own functional pottery mug—no wheel or prior experience required. Melba will guide you step-by-step through the process, sharing professional tips on form, thickness, handles, and surface details so your mug is both beautiful and comfortable to use.

You’ll have the opportunity to personalize your piece with texture, carving, or simple decorative elements while learning how handmade pottery comes together from raw clay to finished form.

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to:

• Work with clay using slab and handbuilding techniques
• Design and construct a functional mug
• Create and attach a comfortable handle
• Refine form, edges, and surface details
• Prepare your piece for drying, firing, and glazing

All materials, tools, and firings are included. Finished mugs will be glazed and fired after the workshop and ready for pickup at a later date.

This workshop is perfect for beginners, creatives looking to try ceramics for the first time, or anyone wanting to make a meaningful, handmade object to use every day.
