Beginner hand building Workshop
The Workshop
Come join your instructor and owner of Seto Pottery in her private studio for a drop in hand building workshop! Guests will learn techniques involved with ceramic house construction. Each guest will complete a heart shaped ceramic dish.
The Process
❤️Pottery pieces require 1 week to dry and 2 kiln firings. The first round is fired in a bisque firing and the second a glaze firing before ready for pick up. Please allow 4-6weeks for turnaround of final product.
Expectations
‼️Pottery is a fine art and pieces do not always turn out as expected and there is always risk of breakage during the process. The workshop are intended to be an experience for the guest and though we try our best for the successful outcomes of pottery pieces, guests are not 100% gauranteed a complete piece.
Pottery is therapeutic in so many ways, it teaches us how to let go and deal with loss and failure and that is something so many of us struggle with.
When you learn pottery from Melba, it’s more than just playing with clay- it’s a chance to get to know yourself better and explore those parts that need a little TLC.
🔥Completed pieces that guests wish to be fired, need to have the date and their inscribed on the bottom. *Pottery is a fine art and skill and goes through many stages before completion. Pieces are not always guarantee to survive!
🌿All sessions require guests to clean the studio and put away equipment when done as this is a shared and sacred studio space.

What do you do in your daily lives that engage in meditative thought?
Soap cutting is very therapeutic for many reasons.
1️⃣The aromatherapy from the 100% essential oils that get released from the process.
2️⃣ The repetitive tasks of peeling, scraping, cutting.
3️⃣ The sounds of the wood contacting the wood as I push the soap through the cutter
4️⃣ The methodical stacking of each bar.
5️⃣ The moments taken to admire and dissect the designs in the swirling soap patterns.
Contrary to popular belief I have a very introverted personality. I grew up spending hours by myself, learning how to create, design, make and break.
I am MOST at home with tasks like this and it balances the chaos of everyday life and things we sometimes we feel we cannot change.
Making my adventure soap has been more than just about feeding a need to create- it’s actually created an opportunity for intentional mindfulness for me and with each batch I hope to bring this to you.

As I got older, nature called me and over time I found ways to nurture and compliment my adventurous, athletic side with my creative side.
